Dr Yvonne Lai

Dr Yvonne Lai completed her Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Western Australia in 2009, and spent some years in rural and urban private practice and from 2013 carried out on-call duties at the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, Western Australia, whilst continuing private practice duties in Northam, (rural Western Australia). She completed her three-year specialist training in Paediatric Dentistry conferred by the University of Western Australia in 2017, and possesses Membership in the Specialist Stream, Paediatric Dentistry (Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons). She has previously worked in the hospital and community settings in Australia and New Zealand, worked in specialist private practice, and has been involved in undergraduate teaching, Paediatric Dentistry, in the Universities of Western Australia, Otago and Adelaide. Yvonne has contributed to peer review for several dental journals and currently sits on an Editorial Board for an international journal. She is actively involved in collaborative interdisciplinary research. Yvonne currently fulfils a teaching commitment with the University of Adelaide and has an interest in working with individuals with special care needs. This is also the focus of her ongoing PhD research on oral health and its impacts in children and adults with Rett syndrome. She has delivered invited presentations on topics which include mouthcare in paediatric oncology; and dental issues in Rett syndrome nationally and internationally. Yvonne is married to her wonderful husband David, and in her spare time, she enjoys swimming, jogging and playing her violin.
